Pink, frilly, owl-y things

Before I forget any longer -- I completely forgot to say thank you for your paper trimmer suggestions! Thank you all for taking the time to give me your opinions! Although I changed my mind and decided to stick with Squishee (cutterpede's new name) for now. Why, you ask?

Oh, because of this! And this! I joined my first kit club -- Studio Calico! I won a $10.00 coupon on Kirsty's blog, and decided to put it to good use. Originally, I was only going to buy Sherwood Forest, the main kit. But then I saw the Maid Marian add on, and it was so pink and frilly and owl-y that I just couldn't pass it up! :)
Other than that, it's turning out to be a pretty blah week. I'm really tired of whiny teenagers.

So for something a bit happier, here are my daily cards:
This was part of the stash that Lisa gave me...love the color!
This refers back to my last post -- I used the bag from the hardware store on the card.
This is a quote from Mike. It seems lately, we end up at the $5 movie bin at Walmart. This is how Mike felt about it last weekend:
This one pretty much says it all:
We cleaned on Sunday. Mike is usually the one who takes the initiative to start.

And in honor of joining Studio Calico:

Last week's This is Me journal was to tell about the thing you spend too much money on. Who want to guess? :)

And I just love this one...Mike is baby-phobic. I think the photo pretty much sums it up! So, which one of these guys do you think looks more freaked out? :)

"I'm picking out a thermos for you..."

Watching The Jerk right now. If you haven't seen it, the title may not make sense. If you haven't seen it in awhile, it still might not make sense. :)

School was cancelled today. Totally unexpected. I have a feeling the school year won't end until sometime in June! It's okay, because I like winter a lot more than I like summer! :) I had already scheduled to take today off, so at least I didn't have to use one of my sick days.

So I took today off to make my rounds through the medical community:

  • 9:10 am - The general practice doctor. I've been having pain in one of my leg joints...turns out it's a strained muscle. So now I have some daily exercises to do for the next few weeks.
  • 1:30 - The vet. Lola had to get her rabies vaccination. Poor thing -- I really think she smelled "animals" all over the room, and knew that she was the reason we were there. She just had that look about her. She was a trooper, though -- two shots. She's been laying around all evening, soaking up the attention.
  • 2:30 - The dentist. The filling behind one of my front teeth fell out. They numbed me -- ugh! My gums are so tender. Somehow, I don't get to lay around the house, soaking up attention. lol
After the dentist, I walked down the street to the new fabric store in town! Such cute stuff. I picked out a few buttons, and went to the desk to pay for them. I was told to go through the connecting door to the hardware store to pay. So I had to take this photo:

It's been a good week!

Monday -- MLK day, so school was out. I had a CAD training that day. Don't worry, I'm not going to bore you with all the details! :)

Tuesday -- I got that lovely 6am phone call that said school was cancelled due to snow! I still had training, but I made time on the way there to treat myself to some Starbucks! Yum!

Today - We were on a 1-hour delay -- icy roads. School wasn't too bad...considering we had been away for 4 days, the kids were pretty good.
No daily card yet! :)

Tomorrow -- I'm going to the doctor, Lola's going to the doctor, and my teeth are going to the doctor. One of the joints in my leg has been hurting for about three weeks, so I'm ready to get that checked out. Lola is getting some shots (shhh...don't tell her this!). And I'm having a filling replaced. Oh, it's gonna be a fun day. On a brighter note, I plan on checking out the new fabric store in town in between stops!
Oh yeah, and I'm totally taking the whole day off for doctor-fest! :)

I made a couple of pages this week. These are for a couple of blog challenges. The first one is for Scrap Mojo. The challenge was to use junk on your layout. I used a bag from Archiver's for the background, flowers, letters and journaling block. I used alcohol ink to add color.
This one is of One Little Word. The word was "still". Love this one because I went artsy all over it! :)

Later, girlies! :)

Need your recommendations

I squished my Cutterpede paper trimmer. Actually, I broke the extending ruler over a year ago. Yesterday, I broke the hinge on the plastic guide thingy that the blade fits onto. It's still usable, but not so easy to use now. So I'm in the market for a new one. One that can take the beating I apparently give to paper trimmers. :) What do you guys use? Or recommend? I can't buy a new one until I get my paycheck, so I have plenty of time to shop around.

I have CAD (computer aided drafting) training Monday and Tuesday of this week. Boo for day 1 being on MLK day. Yay for day 2 being on a school day! :) I'm a total geek for CAD stuff, and I've never had a good software program for my classroom. For $350 and two days of training, I get 300 seats of Pro/Engineer (the CAD program) for my school! I've been using Google Sketchup, which is great as far as free programs go. But I'm so excited about this.

Okay, my geek moment has passed. :) Have a great day!

Psst...wanna see something awesome?

Then go here. Seriously...I'm counting the days until I get my paycheck so I can order some stuff from the awesome Miss Veronica!

I'll be back to blog more later! Lots of daily cards to share!

Contrary to popular belief, I did NOT fall off the face of the earth! :)

Thanks, Lisa, for kicking my bloggy butt into gear! :) Let's recap my week, shall we?

It's been a teacher version of hell-week. I was kicked out of my old classroom, and moved into a much smaller one. Keep in mind that tech. ed. teachers come with a lot of crap. My first load of stuff was moved up there, and the maintenance guys looked at me like I was crazy when I said I would find a place for it all. Guess what -- did that, and brought up a second load that I also successfully unpacked. Sadly, it was one of the best parts of my school year thus far. :) j/k

I actually like the new place where I get my teach on. :) Instead of inhaling dust, I get to breathe in that "new classroom" smell. It's smaller, which means less space for stuff, but also less space for my students to try to roam. I'm right around the corner from the teachers' lounge and faculty restrooms. I hope I can get some photos next week...but I won't bring my camera until I get a locking door on my storage closet.

We had a two-hour delay on Tuesday, which meant my morning classes lasted 30 minutes each! Woohoo! It so looked like we would have a snow day today...darned system went south of us!

I've been watching a lot of Welcome Back, Kotter. My parents gave me season 1 for Christmas -- it was my favorite show back when Nick at Nite played shows from the 70s. It's still so much fun to watch!

This week, Lola learned why we don't jump blindly into bathtubs. She made a running leap at Mike's bathwater the other night, only to learn that water is a very, very wet thing. We learned that she can doggie paddle (kitty paddle?) her way out of a bathtub in record time. Poor little thing -- she was so soaked and freaked out!

This evening, I drove down to Mike's school after work to watch him be Alex Trebek at an academic team meet! He did such a great job -- I'm so proud of him! After the meet, we went to dinner at our fav Chinese restaurant!

This week's This is Me journal was journal what you like about winter. If you've been paying attention, you already know!

And my daily cards:

My new classroom number.

My frustration of the week.

This sounds cryptic, but I promise it's nothing serious. :)

And Lisa is awesome! (Yeah, I think we knew that already!) I won an RAK from her blog -- cute, cute stuff!

And tomorrow is Friday! It's been a long week. Have a great weekend!

My weekend so far...

Last night was pretty rad! I stayed up past 2 o'clock this morning with Leigh and Amanda! We were out the door by 8 to scrap some more! It was a lot of fun -- many of the ladies there were Creative Memories scrappers, so I always feel a little odd bringing in my buttons, playing cards, etc. because I'm always afraid someone is going to give me the "acid free" speech. Everyone was really cool though. Apparently, I have a repuation there for being the "artsy" one, which is weird because I've never really seen myself that way. It was great to just kick back with my friends. The crop really kicked my butt, though. My back hurts from carrying my stuff from the car to the lodge and back again. I was so tired when I got home, but somehow managed to find the energy to go to Applebee's and use up the last of our gift cards from Christmas! (Got my nap in this evening -- I am so not tired now!)

A side note: I hate it when a waitresss give Mike all the attention, but practically ignore me as if it is solely he who is paying/tipping. I was so irritated tonight. Mike ran through his drink quickly, and she was right there to refill his. I literaly took three sips of my Pepsi and she brought out another for me (when she brought Mike's Mt. Dew to the table), which to me screamed "I really don't want to deal with you, so I'm going to get this out of the way now". Plus, it's just wasteful. Also, Mike got one of those meal deals where you get an appetizer, entree, and one of those tiny desserts. After we finished eating, she asked Mike if she would like his dessert brought out. I started to order mine, and she breezed right past me -- the horror! :) I could be more understanding if the place was packed, but it wasn't.

Off my soapbox now. In the words of Homer Simpson, "Stupid minor inconveniences!" :)

I got home to find a package waiting for me from Lisa -- I can't believe it got here so fast! Here's a taste of all the fabuliciousness!

So here is what I accomplished last night:

I told you there would be more Juno-liciousness on the way! :)

This is where Lola would curl up during her first week home -- my fav pair of boots!

I don't know if I'm finished with this one yet. I love icanhascheezburger.com, so I knew I had to give the lolcat treatment to "Lol"a! :)

Finally getting back into my This is Me journal! I found this photo when I was cleaning the other day. Yes, I said cleaning! :)

And, ofcourse, my daily cards:Some big news for me -- totally wasn't expecting this!

And my documentation of last night's crop -- wow, could that explanation have been more boring? :) Seriously, it was so much fun that I couldn't even keep it contained on one card!

Have a great rest of the weekend!

I should be packing my scrappy things...

I'm so excited about the overnight crop tomorrow with Amanda and Leigh! Scrapping into the wee hours of the morning, then getting up early and doing it all again! :) It's gonna be so much fun! I made cupcakes tonight (for sharing, of course)!

Oooh, I won an RAK today from the fabulous Lisa! I can't wait to see what it is! :)

Here are the cards for the last two days. I'm getting ready to work on today's as soon as I finish this post.

I really need to listen to this first card! I stay up much too late scrapbooking. Although I've been very productive lately!

Our local Wal-Mart is kinda strange. When you enter, there is a good chance you will be "greeted" by a solemn-looking teenage guy who stares you down as you enter. And this isn't just one teenager...there's a whole slew of them, each as seemingly angst-filled as the next.

It's raining, it's pouring

The rain is really coming down right now! The weatherman said we were in for some severe weather tonight! Wowzers!

The transition back to work has been rough! Last week wasn't bad, because it was only two days. Yesterday and today I crashed as soon as I got home!
I'm going to an overnight crop with a few friends on Friday! So excited about it!
Still keeping up with my daily cards -- go me! I love this one! Great discovery that I made this weekend!
This one is dedicated to a coworker of mine. Actually, a few. :)

Have a great Wednesday!

I was tagged...twice!

Lisa and Veronica tagged me today to post seven random things about myself. And I think I'm supposed to mention that Lisa tagged me first! lol

  1. I went on my first date when I was 21. (gasp!) It made future hubby jealous, so the following week, I went out with him! :)
  2. I worked in my dad's slaughter house during summers starting at the age of 12. (I just wrapped meat -- nothing too violent!)
  3. I have my first degree brown belt in Shao-lin.
  4. I had to learn to swim in order to graduate from college. So I barely graduated from college. :)
  5. I am very tired of packing up my classroom. This is the 2nd out of three times I will do that this year. Ugh.
  6. I love buttons!
  7. The Toyota Corolla that I was brought home from the hospital in was the same car I drove during high school. Loved that car -- big reason why we bought a Corolla a few years ago!
Hmmm...two of you have already tagged me...so I will tag Inka, Tania, Mika, Rhonda, JLizzie, Charin, and Christina.

So here are the rules: Link to the person that tagged you and post the rules on your blog. Share 7 random and/or weird facts about yourself on your blog, we all want to know them. Tag 7 random people at the end of your post and include links to their blogs.

1/365

Starting my 365 photo journey today! Here's my first:

I probably won't be posting these on my blog everyday...but I will be posting them to my flickr account (check my sidebar).
And, of course, I HAD to document this on my daily card! :)

Stuff I've been up to...

Just wanted to share a little bit of what I've been doing over the last few days.
Besides teaching, of course. :)

Thursday's card.

Friday's card. I started an architecture unit with my tech design class -- we looked at roof styles today. This is the time of year I obsessively point out roof styles while we're driving. :) And I forgot to put the date on this one. Don't worry, though -- I've already fixed it. :)

Remember that time I saw Juno? :) I scrapped a quote from the movie. This will probably not be the last Juno-inspired page you'll see from me.

And after several nights of raiding my scrap table and sleeping in my storage drawers, Lola finally has her own layout!

And Veronica has challenged me to do the 365 (well, 366) challenge with her. I'm going to start tomorrow. I like the idea of daily self portraits, but since I don't feel like taking those every single day, I'm going to leave this wide open!

Have a great weekend!

I heart snow.

So, I was supposed to go back to work today. But it snowed! Most of the schools in the area were cancelled, including mine! I still got up at 5 am, anyway (I was already awake, hoping for the phone call) . I scrapped for a little while. Here's what I came up with:

This is a photo of my boss when I worked in the tech department back in college. She was such an influence on me...kind of a "mom" away from home.

I finished this one last night. Mike and I started Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace program back in March. It's really helped up pay off a lot of debt (we actually expect to be debt free this month!), and just generally get out finances in order. One big thing for me was realizing that I needed to cut up my credit card. I am a person who, if I'm not careful, can rack up a bunch of little stupid purchases. Without my credit card, I have to recognize my limits. A very good thing for me!

Here are my daily cards for the first two days of the year:

And I've already missed taking my daily photo yesterday! Yeesh.

Oooh...I finally got to see Juno last night! Loved it!
