A little scrapping

Over the weekend, I took a look back through the blog for some scrapping inspiration.  One of the great things about blogging so frequently is that I have most of my thoughts already written out when it comes time to scrap.  Here are two layouts I made this weekend.

The first one was based on this post from last month.  Lately, it seems I'm using this mint-pink-doily combo over and over again...but it's just so lovely!  I used the 6.03 sketch from Sketchy Thursdays for this one.

When I posted about this storm back in April, I completely forgot to mention the part of the story where I learned a little about my priorities.  :)   And one of my scrapbooking priorities?  Those Doodlebug alphas.  I'm so glad Hobby Lobby has them, because I use them so often.

Hopefully when I'm completely finished at work (yes, I still have to work even after the kiddos leave) I'll have more layouts to share!

Church Park Night

Every summer, we hold Sunday evening services at our church park.  It's a really great time of fellowship, fun and food.  Tonight was the first service of the summer.

There were sno cones...

...courtesy of Polar Pete.  :)

Greg (the guy behind Polar Pete) has a really cool vision of using Mr. Pete for some community outreach on hot summer days.

This is Gil, our Sunday School teacher and "traveling troubador".

There was an obstacle course...
(For the record, we don't normally have inflatables at our church park events.  But it made for a fun kick-off.  The kids -- and kids-at-heart -- loved it!)

...and Stacy and I got the same knee burn from racing each other.
This makes us inflatable obstacle course knee-burn twins.

Speaking of which, my inflatable obstacle course knee-burn twin and I had a great conversation while walking laps around the park tonight.  I'm very fortunate to have her as my friend.

Also, the weather could not have been more perfect!  I hope your Sunday was grand!

Congratulations Class of 2010!

Yesterday was the last day of school for students, and last night was commencement for the class of 2010. I really thought I was going to start crying that morning, when two of my seniors (who I didn't even have in class this year) stopped by my room to give me a hug and say goodbye. "You were our first teacher."  How I got through that without waterworks is beyond me.  I didn't realize how many great kids I'll be missing next year until I saw them all in one big group at graduation.

As faculty, we get to wear our gowns and hoods.  I LOVE having my Masters degree, particularly because the sleeves make an excellent purse substitution.  Hey, check out the wall art behind me.  I know the point was for the girl wildcat to be daydreaming about the guy wildcat (my head is blocking the thought-bubblyness of it), but doesn't it look like he's just trying to bash her head in?

Yep.  It's late and I'm sleepy.  Can you tell by my weird interpretation of bathroom artwork?

Oh, one more thing before I post this -- the senior class at Mike's school voted him Teacher of the Year!  This is the second year in a row that he's received this award, and I am so proud of him!  He works hard, and cares so much.  (That's not just me saying that...one of his coworkers IM'd me tonight to tell me that.)  He doesn't give himself much credit, but I think he totally deserves it.  (Biased...perhaps.  But that doesn't negate the fact that he puts so much of himself into his work, and it's so nice to see that he really has made an impression on his students.)

A puzzle for you...and Friday Fill-Ins

= what I found in the basement while doing some late-night laundry.
(a baby corn snake)

I should know by now that when my cat starts staring at something, that something is probably alive.  At first, I thought it was the spiral coil from a notebook, and she was just playing with it.  No such luck.

Here's my reaction, along with Mike's very much delayed reaction.
Me:  "Mike.  Come down here."

(Mike's thought process:  "I'm dreaming.")

Me:  "Mike.  There's a snake in the basement."

(Mike's thought process: "I'm still dreaming.  Probably because she told me about that black snake she saw while running.")

Me:  "Mike Bess!  There is a snake in our basement!"

(Mike's thought process: "I'm still dreaming.  But she's yelling my first and last name. Am I in trouble?  Does she think I put a snake down there on purpose?")

Me:  "Mike Bess.  Come down here now!  Snake!"

(Mike's thought process:  "Not a dream.  But she's probably just freaking out over a black snake. No big deal.  I'll take my time waking up.")

Me: (Reluctantly climbing to top of basement stairs, leaving the snake out of my sight) "Mike Bess!  There is a snake in our basement!  It has a pattern, and I don't know what kind it is!"

(Mike's thought process:  "Scheiße.  Not a black snake.")
But, my heroic husband stepped up to the plate, got the little guy into a box, and sent him on his merry way.  Well, he was a pretty cranky snake once he actually got him into the box, so maybe "merry way" isn't the right choice of words.

---------------------------------------------------------------
And, of course, tonight's Friday Fill-Ins:
  1. Athens, OH is my favorite place to travel to.
  2. When I think about my childhood, I often remember books.
  3. An understanding person makes for a good friend.
  4. The wind in the trees, the rain on my skin, and then it got very hot and sunny.
  5. The thought of our seniors going out into the big wide world is so exciting!
  6. My best friend knows how to make me feel better after a bad day.
  7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to rushing to the parking lot to beat the traffic out of graduation, tomorrow my plans include giving in to the cold symptoms that have been nagging me this week and getting lots of rest, and Sunday, I want to enjoy the first church park night of the summer!

We're at the home stretch.

  • A student sailed past my room on a rolling garbage can on Tuesday.
  • One of my male students said he had a headache and asked for a Midol.  He knew what it was, and he was serious.
  • The freshman girls are attempting to start a fad -- walking around with pacifiers in their mouths.  I don't know whether I should roll my eyes, or just be thankful that the pacifiers are not directly linked to teenage pregnancies.
  • I told a kid he needed to stop acting like a hooligan.  He asked me if that was someone from Hawaii.  (Hulagan...get it?)
At least they make some fun cartoon characters.  Enjoy this compilation of a few final animation projects.

Come on 2:55 pm!

Butterfly Crafts June visual challenge

The June visual challenge is up over at Butterfly Crafts.  This challenge is based on a lovely perfume ad, and you should definitely check it out.  There's a prize from Wink Wink Ink up for grabs.  I decided this would be an excellent opportunity to scrap our prom pic from a few weeks ago.  Lots of stitiching on this one...I hardly ever think to do that anymore.

I'll be back tomorrow with some videos a few of my students made.  My kids can animate -- I'm really excited!

Here's the big scrappy news I've been hinting about...

You like prizes, right? You might be the type that gets really excited when a site offers up a really great prize for their challenge, right? What if the site offered up twenty-seven (yes, 27!) prizes? We’re celebrating a lot of great things over at TAAFOMFT: that it’s our 1-year anniversary. That we’ve been pubbed over at ScrapStreet. And just the fact that it’s a fun, inspiring little corner of the challenge blog world. :)

Oh, and we’re scrapping our favorite shoes this month. Easy peasy. I had a little trouble narrowing down my favorite pair, so I chose a category. I love my cute canvas shoes. They’re cute (yes, I know I already said that), and they’re comfy…easily my faves. And, I got to use some hipstamatic photos on this (I love how they look printed glossy!)

So please head on over to TAAFOMFT and join us.  I mean, 27 prizes!  That's almost as good as 27 pairs of shoes!  :)
