I haven't laughed this hard in quite some time...

I think she was ready to go with her "world peace" platform, and got blindsided. Poor girl...but I still couldn't resist posting!

One week down...

...thirty-five to go. :) All in all, this has been the best opening week I have ever experienced -- despite the fact that I had to send work to the construction workers on the other side of my wall to turn the music down, and I don't have a door separating my classroom from the ag classroom that's only a few feet away. Now I just need to get lesson plans together so next week can be the best second week ever!

Mike is sick. He's been sick since Thursday. So sick, that he says he isn't going in to work tomorrow. If you know him, you know it's rare for him to even flirt with that idea. My poor guy! :(

Zack moved into his dorm yesterday! I think he's going to be alright -- he was nervous, but who isn't in that situation. Things seem to be going well. My only fear is that they'll kick him out for bashing in his smoke detector...it lets out a loud chirp every 2-3 minutes...I don't think I could blame him if he did.

A Fine Frenzy

Found this song last night by A Fine Frenzy...I think it might be my new favorite.

Here is the first version of the video:

My classroom, as promised

Here are those pictures of my classroom that I promised. It's looking a lot better now. I am happy to report that I have a cover for my fuse box! Yay!

This is the corner where my desk usually is. I'm going to try to move some of the drawers to the other end of the room so I have some storage space.

Same pile o' stuff, different angle.

This is the entrance to my room. It used to be a double door. Note the covered fuse box to the left of the door! :)

This is the back of my classroom. No more windows, which makes me sad. But there is a wall there, so that's a good thing. :)

My "detiled" ceiling.

Mike is off to see Simon Kenton and Daniel Boone today. They're having a reenactment at Blue Licks this weekend. He told me yesterday that while some parents are the types to take their kids to Disney to get their photo taken with Mickey Mouse, his children will be posing with Daniel Boone for photo ops. I don't think he's kidding. :)

6x12 Layout Fun!!!

I've started scraping 6x12 pages -- I'm getting hooked on this size! Here are a few of my completed pages. Enjoy!

My Scrap Space

Just posting a few pictures of my scrapbook area for this blog.

The "big" view:

Love these jars (the labels are rubons):

This is where all my unfinished stuff waits (and in some cases, waits and waits and waits):

Feeling better...

...after sleeping on last night's post.

Went to the dentist today. One of my fillings had chipped a little. He asked me if I was under any stress. :D Turns out, I just might be a teeth-clencher.

I'm going to have some photos printed today, and do a little scrapbooking. Here's a sampling:

Oh, be on the lookout for dark chocolate peanut M&Ms. They are wonderful!

I'm trying to be positive...I'm trying to be positive...

I looked at my classroom today.

I have no storage space.

My room is covered in dust and concrete bits.

I have no idea if the network is up-and-running.

My fuse box has no cover. I was told that I will have a sign that says "do not touch".

For at least six weeks, my room will not only be a classroom, it will also serve as a hallway to another classroom.

I was told that the door-sized hole in my wall will have a door tomorrow. Five minutes later I was told the door would be installed next summer.

The building has no AC.

My room is a low priority in terms of completion.

We are scheduled to open next Tuesday. :O

The construction workers gave me their condolences.

I haven't cried yet. I'm trying to be positive. I know I'm going to have to be "adaptable and flexible", as my principal says. My stress level keeps rising, though. I don't feel prepared, because I can't do anything to my classroom.

On the plus side, they did take out a doorway and stairs that had no pupose.

I'll try to post pictures later this week. It's quite a sight.

Self Portraits

Here are a couple of self-portraits that I took yesterday. The second one was the result of being bored and having my camera in the kitchen. :)

27 Things...

Did this layout for a challenge on this blog. I don't have my list complete...but if I were a few years younger, I'd be finished with it by now. :)

Getting back in the groove

Mike is back in school this week. I still have two weeks until I go back, so I pampered him a little tonight. That first week back can be the most difficult. And I got to play "tech support" when he was trying to figure out how to use his Airliner (a really nifty classroom tool that let's you use your computer screen from anywhere in the classroom -- I want one!).

Great news -- my mom started her new job with after-school daycare today! Congrats, Mom!

I'm actually in the mood to work on my classroom -- if only I could get in the building! My deparment head took a (possibly illegal) tour of the building. My classroom seems to be in order, but there is an open area to the building addition. I dread unpacking, so I really need to get all my paperwork (syllabi, lesson plans, etc.) in order so I'll have more time to unpack all my stuff! (If you've seen my room, you know why I dread this!)

Today I went to my favorite clothing store ever, and found two nice pairs of khakis. And I found these shoes at Target.

Teaching a scrapbook class tomorrow night using this paper and this paper.

This is where I come from? Oh my...

Here is a video clip of a fight from a 1992 Paintsville vs. Prestonsburg game that's been making the rounds on YouTube. I find this funny because I remember when this happened. Imagine living this down, and then having the entire incident resurface online 15 years later! (Lesson for the day -- Adults, don't start fights at high school basketball games!)

Oh, and let me just add a disclaimer -- I attended Johnson Central High School, not Paintsville.

Now that I have cleared up any potential misunderstandings, here's the video clip. Sadly, I could not embed it on my blog, so you'll have to click the link. Yep, I'm making this difficult on purpose... ;)

Sad news story...

I am so proud of my sister for calling attention to the all-too-short life of our former neighbor, who became New Orleans 108th murder victim of the year last week. Very sorry she made the news under these circumstances, though.
